Llama Treks are available in two lengths: Half-Day or Full-Day.
Your Llama carries everything for you, including catering equipment, chairs, etc. leaving you to relax, chill-out and enjoy your Llama's company, the countryside and the SPECTACULAR mountain views, etc.
(You don't ride a Llama, you lead them!)
HALF-DAY TREK - Our most popular - starts from the Kaikoura i-Site, and consists of a two and a half hour trek around Kaikoura Bay, with a SPECTACULAR Kaikoura mountain backdrop throughout. The route is mostly flat, and includes: beach, board walk, tracks, and a stop at the extremely popular Kaikoura Peninsular seal colony to take pictures, etc. Your trek includes: your own llama, saddle and two packs; experienced guide; FREE entry to Fyffe House, the oldest house in Kaikoura - a restored whalers cottage and museum; FREE picnic including freshly made tea or filter coffee, soft drinks, PLUS homemade cake; and transport back to the start

FULL-DAY HIGH COUNTRY - Meeting at the Kaikoura Farm Park, we include transport to/from the start of your trek. We have EXCLUSIVE access to private land with SPECTACULAR panoramic views along the Kaikoura Mountain ranges, Kaikoura Peninsular, and the North Island (on a clear day!) Your trek includes your own llama with saddle, two packs, and an experienced guide. The route includes: Some elevation (to enjoy the spectacular views!), uses rough tracks, has some small step-across streams. and an OPTIONAL scrummy buffet lunch, including a FREE glass of local New Zealand wine (adults only); as well as a FREE picnic with homemade cake, and freshly made tea, filter coffee or soft drinks.

At present we've TEN Llamas: Carlos, Sylvester, Llouie, Legend, Bruno, Irimea, Max, Herbert and Rocky. While they may look aloof, each of these Llamas are very friendly males and are great pack horses, carrying your entire luggage. They're very spoilt, just love human company and being kissed and cuddled.
MORE DETAILS...Introductory Session = All our Llama Treks include a personalised introduction to familiarise you with Llamas and Llama Trekking; then a specific intro. to the characters of our Llamas; after which you get to choose and are welcomed to your animal...
Llama Trekking Guide = An experienced Trekking guide accompanies all our Llama Treks. Your guide will take you round your route, and will help you get the most out of the experience. During your Trek, PLEASE ask any questions you like about your woolly friend! Your guide will also help describe what's hapenning, or simply the characteristics and behaviour of Llamas under certain conditions, etc. so you will be full informed and knowledgeable by the time you're finished!
BOOKINGS
If you'd like to experience a Llama Trek, give us a call, send us an email, or website message, and we'll hapily discuss dates, availability, prices, options and answer any questions you have (we'll do what we can to avoid your other bookings too)
Your Llama Trek must be booked 24+ hours in advance (particularly in the summer when we are much busier!) Our minimum number is two adults, but try us anyway, because short notice and/or combining with another group is often possible.
CHILDREN
Babies (1-3) = no charge - must be carried throughout the trek. No push chairs/strollers. (We've two baby/toddler back-packs for hire = $10 per pack, per trek - please book in advance)
Under 8 = We recommend children under about eight don't go on Full-Day Treks - you know your child best!
Kids about six to eight can enjoy Half-Day Treks, but they don't have their own Llama, instead sharing yours. They pay kids rate.
Children 9-13 = pay the kids rate. You have the option for them to have their own llama or to share yours!
Children 14+ = normal adult rate.
Meeting Point
Full-day HIGH COUNTRY treks - start from, and return to, the Kaikoura Farm Park, which has ample car parking! See our
contact page, for location details, Google map, etc. (our High Country treks are off-site on private land, which we drive you to/from)
Half-day Kaikoura Bay & Seal Colony treks - the meeting point is the Kaikoura i-Site.
Start-Time = Our treks start at 9:00hrs or 13:00hrs (1pm). PLEASE arrive ten minutes early. (If you've other commitments while you're in Kaikoura, we'll do what we can to move our times to fit into your schedule - please contact us directly to discuss)
Bring = camera, waterproofs and a warm layer (just in case!); stout footwear (eg: gum boots [wellies], trainers or walking boots). Optional = water bottle, hat, sun cream, gloves, scalf, ... Your llama carries everything for you, except your camera!
WARNING: Trainers will not be safe on the full-day trek if it is wet or if rain is forecast! We reserve the right to refuse to take anyone without sufficient/correct clothing and footwear.
Weather = we will still trek in light wind and light rain. Strong wind is usually okay. We do not trek in heavy rain, or if heavy rain is forecast (under these circumstances, we will do our best to move you to a convenient alternate day/date. If none can be found, you will receive 100% refund of the total price - minus any unrecoverable costs, eg: credit card or agent commission, transport costs, etc.)
Transport = We can pick up and deliver you back to your accommodation in our comfortable four-wheel drive Land Rover. (a small charge applies - please book in advance)
Deposit = your Llama Trek booking is securred with a 50% deposit via cash, NZ bank transfer, Visa debit, or credit card (4.5% CC fee applies)
CANCELLATIONS
BY US = 100% refund, minus any unrecoverable costs, eg: credit card or agent commission, transport, catering, etc.
YOU = 14+ days in advance = 80% refund; 7-13 days = 50% refund; 3-6 days = 25%; 0-2 days = no refund (all of full price)
Group Discounts = Available for groups 6+ (Please contact us to discuss details!)
EFTPOS = We don't have an eftpos facility - sorry!
